Back Story: The following is a Text Message from ChezNiki to Blackfeminista and HotCarmell when she finally reached her apartment. Note that her plane landed at 1:10am and her home is 10 mins from the airport. Also note that there is no public transportation in Boston between 12:50am and 5:15am.
Just gettg home now. F*ckg cabby drove through lynn, revere, medford + everett before I threatend him with callg the police + taxi comm. THEN he took me back (home) to Boston! 10 min ride took 25 mins! Hate f*ckg Boston! Im back for 10 mins and the bullsh*t already startd!

Front Story: I could write yet another complaint letter to the TLC and the MTBA explaining yet again why they should have twenty-four hour public transportation in Boston. That it would be safer (and less expensive) for women, drinkers who dont want to drive, and those who work the night shift. That grown people dont have a curfew and that every other major city has SOME service after hours, even if its hourly. Me and Lucien both knew this was a $25 fare, and that's all I paid him... even though his meter was well over $40 when I got out of the car.
Returning to Boston after a vacation is like having your parents beat you after coming home from the prom ten minutes late. Cant have fun here and you sustain contusions and head injuries if you try to squeeze just a little fun out the rest of your life.
Question: Why should I have to add an additional $25 to my airfare everytime I fly back into Logan after 12 midnight?
Answer: Because I still live here.
Uncle. I give up. Im done.

Oh man, I hear ya. I HATE taking a cab home from the airport.
I've finally just told the cab drivers up front that I know what the fare is from Logan to home ($36), and if the meter runs over that because they've gotten 'lost', they will be eating through whatever gratuity I have planned for them. I hate being such a hardass, I really do, but easily half the time I catch a cab from Logan, the bastards try to take me the 'long' way, and I'm NOT putting up with that BS. No way. Just because I'm not driving right then doesn't mean I don't know how to get home and when someone's trying to pull a fast one.
While we were driving through Everett, I asked the guy, "What if this was your mother or sister, coming home late at night and a cabbie drove them through some backroads at 1:30am? You wouldnt like it. So why are you doing this to me?"
And I was too pissed off to think, "What if this guy is a rapist axe murderer?" I was so mad I wasnt even scared!
Im am trying to find a women's rights or advocacy group to take this up. If they try to charge residents this much, I cant even imagine what they charge the tourists??!
Your story blows - sorry to hear it...
I HATE returning home after a long flight to be welcomed by a bitchy cab driver.
I HATE returning home after a vacation or business trip to be welcomed by a bitchy Boston.
@Jasons - Before we left the terminal that night, another cabbie got a ticket for refusing a fare and then refusing to let dude get his suitcase back out of the trunk.
Insanity!
JUST TODAY i flew back to boston and i chose to spend over an hour getting home on our sorry public transport specifically to avoid taking a cab by myself. i am so glad to know that i am not the only woman who has dealt with the creepy cab drivers here. i will go to almost any length to avoid taking a cab by myself in this city.
thank you for the catharsis, i am so pleased to find someone else suffering the experience of living in boston.
When I was still living in Boston, a taxi took be 18 blocks out of the way "because there was no u-turn," only to drive me back to the intersection where he picked me up (I was going in the opposite direction). I've had drunk cab drivers, drivers who have fallen asleep. I do the same thing in every instance--ask them to stop and don't give them a dime. Totally understand your frustration.
Ugly city. Ugly people. Ugly sports fans. Ugly in every regard. I will never again go to Boston for any reason! There is absolutely nothing in Boston of any interest to me.
