'Cause this is a rant:
MARRIAGE LAWS
Dont get it twisted. The 1913 Massachusetts law Deval Patrick repealed last week was NOT drafted to stop gay couples from getting married, it was originally written to prevent out of state mixed-race couples from marrying here. Romney tried to use the law to stop out of state gay couples from getting married in Massachusetts, but they werent thinking about gay couples in 1913. Before the 1967 Supreme Court case, Lovingv.Virginia, some states allowed mixed race marriage, some didnt. Most Southern states had "racial purity" laws on the books which made it illegal for whites to marry anyone but other whites. The Lovings, a white man and Black woman, went to DC to get married. When they arrived back home to Virginia, they were arrested. Their marriage was against the law and not valid in Virginia. In 1967 the Supreme Court repealed the racial purity laws and folks of all colors could mix it up all over the country.
However, back in 1913, while Massachusetts allowed mixed race couples to marry, it didnt want all those couples from the deep South flooding the local Justice of the Peace offices (not concerned with tourism dollars back then). So Massachusetts passed a law stating that if your marriage would not be legal in your home state, you couldnt get married here either. Regardless of his daughter's coming out, and the tourism dollars the state could raise by being the Vegas of Gay weddings, it was absolutely right for Massachusetts to repeal this law. If you are an adult, not crazy, not related, and not already married, you should be able to marry whomever will have you.
I will say this again. This is not a moral issue, nor does it force churches to marry couples against their religious tenets. This is LEGAL protection for couples who would be together anyway. Now if Uncle Deval could repeal that law from the 1600s that wont let me buy an onion from the grocery store on Thanksgiving, we'll be all set!
ARROGANT ROCK STAR
Okay so, youve been harping on his lack of Foreign Policy experience. Besides the fact that he IS foreign policy. African father, raised in Hawaii, went to school for a time overseas and more recently dealing with the multicultural madness that is Chicago. If he had cowed and bowed his head and been "humble" you would have said that he was not Presidential, not fit to lead. But now that he raises up and walks tall like the educated, intelligent, charismatic man that he is, and takes a nominee world tour, you call him "arrogant" !?!?! Have you lost your mind? Bush wishes he were that well received anywhere, or that well spoken, or that well put together...before during or after his Presidency.
But the most important thing you have to understand is that this man will be our next President. Game Over. If you are uncomfortable with that, immigrate to Canada or something. When the first Aleut Eskimo becomes President up there, you will be a$$ out, though.
ACCESSORY AFTER THE FACT?
Okay so your common law spouse, with whom you have four infants (aged 3, 2, 22mo and 11mo), beats you on the regular. You leave and hide out at a friends house. You cant speak English too well, you are an immigrant. Your spouse finds you at the friend's. Your spouse fights with you, stabs you, then stabs your friend in the head when they try to intervene. The friend dies. The spouse looks at you and your babies and tells you that they (the spouse and the children) are going to New York, immediately. You leave your dead friend, (who also has four children), buy the bus tickets (that's all you can afford) and travel with your spouse to Brooklyn, terrified, hoping that no one else gets hurt.
LounaEveillard, 26 of Lynn, Mass was faced with this scenario this past week. She was recently arrested in New York, charged with accessory after the fact, in the murder of her friend Greenland Etienne of Lynn, whom her common law husband, Rodlyn Petitbois stabbed in the eye and killed. The children are with relatives in Brooklyn, under watch by DSS. The NYPD thought she changed her story about her injuries and the murder too many times... and that she must have been an accomplice, you know, since she bought the bus tickets and all. (?!?!?)
This woman is a classic immigrant domestic violence case. Alone, abused, pregnant non-stop for over three years, not too much English. According to AP, she doesnt even have a telephone number in her name. She needs help: medical, legal, psychological, spiritual. Im hoping that a womens group, domestic violence or Haitian Community group comes together and helps this woman and her children. Sad thing about it? Being locked up in a Kings County jail is probably the safest she's been in years.

Probably is the safest place...but not for long...they won't be nice to her in there for too long....and don't think she won't be in there....for a long time.
Courts are too nice to those of us not of the paler persuasion.
When I heard she was arrested, I was SO mad. She clearly has already had a painful life hear in America, then to put her in jail! And that BabyDaddy is clearly insane. I hope she and her children get some help.
